Gearing up for Spring's wrath
Everyone's complaining how they're sick of the cold and all that, but frankly, I want it to stay wintery for as long as possible. Want to know why?
Well, let's have a look here at past Kansas springs and the monsters it brings and then you'll see why I'm always a bit scared for my life and home when spring rolls around...

Yeah. It sucks being in 'tornado alley.'

Damn, a few of those looked like the tornado that hit Dorothy's house in The Wizard of Oz.

I see your point. I'd want it to stay winter, too.

When I saw this, I'm sorry but I laughed. But shit, I am very glad I don't live in Kansas. In NJ we may have freaks, but freaks don't level towns like this or cause this much destruction. It makes sense this part of the nation is called the "Bible Belt". Who wouldn't hope they had some sort of control or comfort when something like this could just happen for no reason.

People think that the human race has a firm grasp on our existence here, but like everything else we're only a transient inhabitant of this planet. Things like this really make you realize that.

I just don't know how anyone can live in that state with the constant threat of everything you own being destroyed year after year. You would think a bunch of architects would put their head together and build a community virtually indestructible to tornado strike. I've had this idea for years, it is a bit of a utopian society, but looking around at the urban revitalization going on in my city, I don't see a whole lot of difference in what I have in my mind and current construction for multiuse in a city.

Maybe I’ll try to build it in Second Life as a thesis and demonstration of the possibilities and present it to someone who can do something with it.

ya, tornadoes are scary. i remember the one that skipped over my house and ripped apart the base when i was little but you can't live in fear of something that might happen.

honestly i'm sick of the dreary cold and icy months. all this gray weather depresses me, i'm ready for happy springtime.

I love winter, and I wish it'd stay cold just a bit longer. Howeeeeever. Here's the thing with tornado's and the city we live in:

Imagine our city like a big circle.

Imagine every tornado coming within an inch of that circle...and then swerving or dissipating at the last moment.

That's how its been for -years-. Knock on wood. I'm never too worried, but there's always the possibility, so you just have to be ready. I keep a clear plastic case of all my precious stuff set aside so that if a tornado hits, I just grab it, the cats, and the bathroom stuff and rush down to the basement. Along with a backpack of clothes.

Eek! Although that top one looks really cool, with the rainbow and all...
On the flip side, I'm sick of the heat down here in the southern hemisphere. I can't wait to walk the 5 mins (if that) to my bus stop and not be sweating and hoping against hope that the bus is air conditioned. It feels like the middle of summer and it's the end of February! And back in late December/early January when I wanted it to be hot because I wanted to go to the beach, it wasn't! The seasons are shifting, ad it sucks.
Eh, sorry. Don't mind me, using your journal for my own little rant... :/
